Cat Grooming - FAQ

  • What causes matting?

Matting occurs due to a blend of greasy skin, coat, and natural shedding. Once a small tangle or mat forms, it rapidly escalates. Regular cat brushing can stave off these issues. If matting persists, professional bathing and drying by an adept cat groomer might be needed. Be wary of groomers without the right expertise, as improper products and techniques can worsen matters. Opt for a certified groomer via the National Cat Groomers Institute of America, Inc., the sole association with quality cat grooming training.

  • How do you dry the cats?

At our salon, we employ the exclusive Catty Shack Vac drying system, tailored for felines. Being Ottawa's sole user of this method guarantees top-notch drying and premium grooming quality. The Catty Shack, an enclosed glass structure, keeps your cat secure during the drying process, safer than a table where they might escape.

  • Do you use sedation?

We do not sedate cats. In reality, very few cats truly do need any sort of sedative in order to be groomed. If necessary, we'll recommend a mild sedative from your vet.

    Safety and comfort come first.

  • Is grooming painful for my cat?

Grooming your cat prevents more pain than it causes. Neglected cats face serious matting, skin issues, ingrown nails, and more. Regular grooming keeps these issues at bay. Groomers closely inspect your cat during each visit, spotting potential health problems early for prompt intervention.

  • How long does a grooming appointment last?

Usually, 1 to 2 hours are allocated for single cat appointments. Multiple cats or severe matting may take longer. We value minimizing time away from your cat's home environment, ensuring efficient yet thorough grooming.

  • How often should my cat be groomed?

For optimal results, most cats benefit from professional grooming every 8 - 12 weeks.

  • Do you groom aggressive cats?

We usually manage even aggressive cats. Safety's a priority, with extra staff as needed. Notify us if your cat's aggressive when booking.

  • Can you provide grooming for my cat if other salons have declined?

Our specialty is working patiently with all animals, including those turned away elsewhere.

  • What are the benefits to having my cat professionally groomed?

Regular grooming yields a happier, healthier cat free from potential woes. Shedding, hairballs, allergies are reduced, while hygiene is improved. And yes, you're relieved from the grooming duties!

  • What is the significance of being certified groomers?

Certification speaks volumes. Chantal, a Certified Feline Master Groomer through the National Cat Groomers Institute of America, brings exceptional skill and standards to the table.

  • Do you offer de-skunking treatments?

Indeed, we offer a de-skunking treatment. If your cat encounters a skunk, avoid bathing, as this can further disperse the odor. We recommend scheduling a prompt appointment for treatment application. Please note, there is an extra fee for this service.

  • Do you offer a de-skunking treatment?

Yes, we have a de-skunking treatment available. If your dog gets sprayed by a skunk, please don't give them a bath, as that could spread the smell. Instead, try to schedule an appointment as soon as possible for the treatment. An additional fee applies.

  • Do I need an appointment for grooming?

Yes, appointments are necessary for our grooming services. We suggest calling at least a week in advance, although there might be earlier availability. We maintain a cancellation list that you can join by request. Nail trimming is an exception, as you don't need an appointment, but calling ahead is recommended.

  • What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, debit, Visa, and Mastercard.

  • Should I tip the groomer?

Tipping is appreciated, much like with hairdressers. If tipping isn't feasible, a sincere compliment is always welcomed.

  • Do you offer multi-cat discounts?

We do not offer multiple pet discounts on grooming services; each pet's care is equivalent.
